london journals :: june 2005
After my year in Australia, I lived in London for two and a half years, but always with the intention of moving back to Sydney eventually. But I carried on writing my journals in London... mostly because I just liked writing them, and my friends in other parts of the world (and some in the UK) still liked to read them. Here they are! You can keep up to date with what I'm up to now in my new Sydney journals, far out!

Tottering on knackered legs
You may well have been wondering what I've been up to over the last month, since I've gone deathly silent on the journal front. As always, I'm just busy busy busy.
On the 17th, Pete and I threw a last-minute party to celebrate the Queen's birthday. Alright, any excuse for a party...
Chris' photos (pruned from 500 odd snaps).
Possibly I shouldn't have been staying up so late, since it was the week before the London Pride Run which I rather crazily signed myself up for some time ago. There had been some intention of having practice runs in preparation, but they never really happened, especially as a beautifully hot week followed and it seemed nothing short of lunacy to be practising running 10km in the heat of summer. Mikey and I exchanged running shoes for picnic paraphernalia and unrolled ourselves on the grass of Clapham Common instead.
The day of the run dawned cloudy and warm, and I met up with my fellow runners at Brockwell Park, where several hundred (!) homos were limbering up. I was half expecting to find someone in gold lamé and sequins, or some body-hugging lycra number, but it wasn't to be. Just a lot of people who soon zipped past Mikey and me. I had evidently forgotten the pain in my legs when I did the City to Surf in Sydney, or maybe I was in better shape, but my initial confident jog deteriorated to a pathetic crawl and, a few times, to an exhausted stroll. Mikey kept me going though, as did Beth and Simon who cheered from the sidelines when they weren't taking time out to have a greasy breakfast instead of holding out bottles of Powerade. Hmph.
Finally made it over the finish line after 55 mins, with the sound of my heartbeat and ragged breathing and screaming of my thighs drowning out what must have been the ear-splitting exhortations of Beth, amplified by megaphone. Never again.
To celebrate completion of the course, I spent the next 24 hours drinking and clubbing. Probably not the best idea after an unprepared run, but my muscles were thoroughly warmed down. Still limping now though, one and a half weeks later!
